These saltings and mudflats form a major part of a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and support nationally and internationally important numbers of birds including Black-Headed Gull, Little, Common and Sandwich Terns, Oystercatcher, Ringed Plover, Redshank, Brent Geese, Dunlin, Grey Plover and Black-tailed Godwits.

Saltmarsh is a detached three bedroom bungalow situated in extensive grounds on Iley Point on the east side of the Keyhaven harbour.

Views from the veranda, lounge and, bedrooms include Keyhaven harbour, with the Isle of Wight, Hurst Castle and the Solent as far as the Needles in the background.
