01442 236777 Fax: 01442 211008
There are a wide variety of birds to be seen along Bembridge Coast and an important area for migrating waterfowl. During the winter Brent Geese, Wigeon, Teal, Eider Ducks and Red Breasted Merganser can all be seen as well as waders such as Ringed Plovers, Oystercatchers, and Dunlin & Turnstone.
The rocky coastline is a speciality for purple sandpipers which stay from November through to March & can be seen roosting at high tide on the lifeboat station.
Being at the most eastern point of the island makes it a good place to see birds on passage. Rare birds like Great Northern Divers, Red Throated Divers and Gannets can be seen during the spring and autumn.. |
