Red-backed Shrike

Scientific Name Lanius collurio
Status Summer visitor to Europe. Once bred commonly in Britain in suitable habitat, now only an occasional pair breed. Can still be found as a scarce passage mirgant, mainly along the east coast.
Habitat On passage in coastal srcubby areas.
Description Male has distinctive combination of grey crown and rump, black mask and pale pinkish breast, with extensive white base of tail. Female duller, browner and more scaly.
