Mamals and Birds of the Cairngorn National Park

An Illustrated talk by Allan Bantick.

Since its creation just a few years ago the world has watched to see what difference the creation of a National Park in the Cairngorms would make to the fortunes if its wildlife. Would it benefit from better protection or be threatened by an increase in housing developments? The jury's still out, but Allan takes his audience to see what mammals and birds may currently be found in the park, beginning on the high tops and making his way gradually downhill to the valley floors, calling in on the main habitat types on the way. The talk is illustrated with almost a hundred photographs and videos clips. Allan is a dedicated conservationist with more than 20 years experience working with wildlife in Scotland. He is currently Chairman of the Council of the Scottish Wildlife Trust, Chairman of the Steering Group for the Scottish Beaver Trial and a Trustee of the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts. He appears on radio and in television programmes dealing with Scottish wildlife such as Springwatch and Natures Calendar, and he regularly gives public talks about his work. His main focus is on mammals but he is also interested in creating nesting opportunities for rare birds with special needs such as crested tits and goldeneye.

The talk will be held at 7.30pm at the Lindsay Stewart Lecture Theatre, Napier University, Craiglochart, Edinburgh. Entry Fee of £2 includes Tea/Coffee & Biscuits. Contact: Tel 01875 340 580
